Press ReleaseContact: Shaila Abdullah December 10, 2005 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Texas Author Invited to Read at the Chowrangi 2005 FundraiserAustin, TX— Pakistani-American author Shaila Abdullah, author of the award winning book Beyond the Cayenne Wall was invited to the Chowrangi 2005 Fundraiser on December 8, 2005, to do a book reading. The event took place in the Sundaram Tagore Gallery in New York and marked the launch of the Chowrangi magazine's latest issue that highlights the recent tragedy of the Pakistan earthquake and the triumph of the human spirit. A portion of the proceeds from the event went towards the long-term reconstruction and rehabilitation of schools in the affected areas through Ibtida, a non-profit organization working to provide quality education to underprivileged children in the rural areas of Pakistan. The other celebrated authors who presented readings at the event were Haroon Moghul and Bushra Rehman. "Team Chowangi's efforts are to be applauded," says Abdullah. "Not only are they seeking to rectify the overall image of Pakistan but they have an ongoing agenda to help rebuild the affected areas of Pakistan as well. The December fundraiser was only one of such events." Chowrangi is a quarterly magazine that investigates the intersection of the Pakistani-American community with both the United States and Pakistan in matters social, political, cultural, and spiritual. The magazine boldly tackles the social issues in the country that require the world's attention. Her creative work focuses on the strengths and weaknesses of Pakistani women and their often unconventional choices in life.
