Utter Reading Series featuring Shaila Abdullah and Laurie Filipelli
On Tuesday, June 6, at 7:00pm, the Utter Reading Series
at Bookpeople, Austin, will feature authors Shaila Abdullah and
Laurie Filipelli. The Utter Reading series is held at Bookpeople on the first Tuesday of every month. The series' emphasis is on local authors and poets.
Shaila Abdullah was born in Karachi, Pakistan. Her latest book,
Beyond the Cayenne Wall, is a collection of stories about Pakistani
women struggling to find their individualities despite the barriers
imposed by society. She has won several accolades for her writing
including Writer's Digest Short Story Award for one of the stories
and the Jury Prize for Outstanding Fiction in the 2005 Norumbega
Fiction Awards.
Laurie Filipelli teaches high school English. She earned her
MA from the University of Cincinnati and her MFA from Indiana University.
Her poetry and prose have appeared in The Columbia Review, Indiana
Review, Spillway, The Southern Indiana Review, and can currently
be found online at Web Del Sol's The Potomac. |
